Open Donation Agreement

Our signed and notarized open donation agreement, or contract, has arrived to the negotiator. Our donors' agreement should hopefully arrive next week. This will make everything official.

The main jist of the agreement is that the "property is transferred to us" meaning the embryos will be ours to use and should they result in a pregnancy, the child will be legally ours. The embryos are really only ours once they are actually transferred and, while frozen, remain property of our clinic. We "have a reservation" on them, so to speak.

The other part of the agreement spells out openness, since we choose to know who the donor family is and allow them to know who we are. We mutually agreed to a minimum of two mutual electronic updates a year (information, pictures), with the option to do more updates and to meet in person at any time we both decide upon. We've begun emailing with the family, which is very exciting. They live an hour away, we have several things in common, and they seem like caring, down-to-earth people.

Next step- we will receive the transfer date and medication protocol (what dates to take what medications) in about 5-10 more days! I'm getting pretty nervous since finding out the IVF nurse quit to go to another job, and there will be a brand new nurse directing everything.
